Central to Of Blood and Water is an ambitious three-part documentary-drama series exploring the extraordinary lives of the North American Martyrs and the Indigenous Apostles who helped shape the early Church in North America. Led by award-winning filmmaker Kevin Dunn, and developed in consultation with a diverse circle of advisors, including Indigenous Catholic leaders, historians, theologians and Church leaders, the production brings together cinematic recreations, historical scholarship, Indigenous voices and a present-day journey of faith, with a planned release in 2028.

While much has been written about Saints Jean de Brébeuf, Isaac Jogues and their companions, far less is known about the Indigenous men and women who freely embraced Christianity and became courageous witnesses and evangelizers within their own communities. Among them was Joseph Chiwatenhwa, whose remarkable journey of faith, together with that of his family and fellow Indigenous believers, offers a powerful and often overlooked chapter of our shared history.

Through their intertwined stories, Of Blood and Water seeks to rediscover a remarkable legacy of faith, sacrifice and encounter — one that continues to resonate today.
